Establishment of Hamilton EverGraze Proof Site Pastures

Table 1 shows the cultivars, establishment dates, sowing rates and soil treatments for the Hamilton EverGraze Proof Site pasture systems.

The summer active species (lucerne, chicory, tall fescue and kikuyu) were all direct drilled in spring 2004. All four pastures were then over-sown with a mix of subterranean clover and white clover during autumn/winter 2005.

All three of the perennial ryegrass cultivars (Fitzroy, Avalon and Banquet) were direct drilled with a mix of subterranean clover and white clover in winter 2005.

The Italian ryegrass was direct drilled with a mix of subterranean clover and white clover during the winter 2005. These Italian ryegrass pastures were re-sown again in Autumn 2006 with Crusader. Feast II Italian ryegrass was then direct drilled into these pastures in autumn 2007. In May 2008, Banquet II perennial ryegrass was direct drilled into these paddocks. These pastures were not sprayed out before being re-sown, and are now effectively a mixture of the two varieties of Italian ryegrass and the Banquet II perennial ryegrass.
