Production and Environmental Challenges

In the Warren catchment, salinity is an increasing problem leading to poor water quality in the river. The use of summer active perennial pastures has been identified as a solution to the problem by drying the soil profile. Summer active pastures also provide a source of high quality forage for livestock over the summer.

Innovation being tested:

Use of lucerne and chicory pastures.

Base pasture:

Annual pastures with subterranean clover and annual grasses are the most common in the region

Animal systems:

Lamb finishing
