Production and Environmental Challenges

The challenge in this catchment is to increase pasture productivity while at the same time overcoming major environmental challenges including flooding, surface water run-off, groundwater recharge, sedimentation, excessive nutrient loads in streams and wind erosion.

Innovation being tested:

Main aim is to compare the production obtained from lucerne pasture compared with annual pastures across the fence, to obtain an idea of differences in stocking rates. Plant density of the lucerne over time will also be assessed

Base pasture:

Annual pasture

Animal systems:

Sheep and cattle
