Production and Environmental Challenges

The challenge in this region is to maintain or increase the perennial component of the pasture while increasing the overall productivity of the pasture grazing system. In the Warren catchment, the aim is to have 25,000 ha under perennial pastures to improve the quality of water in the river.

Innovation being tested:

A new pasture was established in 2007.
The Innovation paddock was sown to a mix of Whittet Kikuyu and Palestine strawberry clover.

Base pasture:

Results from the Innovation site will be compared with non treated sections of the same paddocks that contain annual grasses and broadleaf weeds.

Animal systems:

Beef cattle
