Production and Environmental Challenges

The challenge in this catchment is to increase pasture productivity while at the same time overcoming major environmental challenges including flooding, surface water run-off, groundwater recharge, sedimentation, excessive nutrients in water, and wind erosion.

Innovation being tested:

To study the production benefits of kikuyu compared to annual pastures and how kikuyu spreads across paddocks where there is patchy establishment.
