Production and Environmental Challenges

The aim of this site is to better match pasture species to the landscape and overcome current limitations to feed supply over summer and autumn while increasing water use.

Innovation being tested:

Lucerne sown on upper slopes, tall fescue on the lower flats with phalaris or perennial ryegrass on the mid slopes

Base pasture:

The current pastures in the area contain older cultivars of ryegrass, and are dominated by annuals such as winter grass, cape weed and sub clover

Animal systems:

The site will be grazed by prime lamb ewes
