Local producers to the proposed site have expressed considerable interest in dealing with variable climatic conditions. The main focus of their interest was more resilient pasture systems that persist through dry periods and current climate variability, in order to reduce supplementary feed costs and can respond to rain when it falls. The district around the proposed trial site has experienced considerable climate variability in recent years. From a long term average rainfall of 620mm per year, recent years have experienced 450mm per year, with an increased amount of that rain falling outside of the growing season.
