Production and Environmental Challenges

The aim of this site is to better match pasture species to the landscape and overcome current limitations to feed supply over summer and autumn while increasing water use.

Innovation being tested:

Summer active pasture: lucerne sown on 25% of the area
Winter active pasture: perennial ryegrass, winter active tall fescue and sub clover sown on 25% of the area
Winter-spring pasture: summer active tall fescue, phalaris, lucerne and sub clover sown on 25% of the site

Base pasture:

The current pastures in the area contain older cultivars of ryegrass, and are dominated by annual species

Animal systems:

The site will be grazed by ewes and lambs
