Maintaining perennial pasture species.
Meeting protein demands of young stock in summer
The need to produce a diversity of pastures that will help maximise the amount of feed grown in a variable or changing climatic pattern.

Innovation being tested:

 Summer active introduced perennial grass system compared to a native perennial pasture (microlaena and danthonia sp.) and a novel herb based pasture (plantain and chicory)

Base pasture:

 Quantum II Max P Summer active Tall Fescue sown spring 2008 at 20kg/ha with Trikkala sub clover to be broadcast at 10kg/ha in autumn 2009

Animal systems:

 Merino wethers

 Latest results

First data to be collected in April 2009.

A difficult spring at sowing with a dry finish has resulted in a patchy establishment.
