Production and Environmental Challenges

Innovation being tested:

At this Support Site there will be 2 paddocks involved in the trial, Mt Faith and Creek, both paddocks along with the remainder of the property are being managed using holistic management, which involves large groups of stock rotationally grazing for short intervals with long rest periods based on plant growth and rainfall to allow pasture species to recover from the last graze. There will be no cultivation of pasture species on the property; grazing management will focus on changing the paddock environment to increase the number of desirable perennial species.

Base pasture:

Mt Faith – Is an established phalaris stand with introduced annuals present.
Creek – Severely degraded paddock comprising mainly introduced annuals however some established Microlaena stipoides and Austrodanthonia spp. plants were present.

Animal systems:

 Cattle
