Production and Environmental Challenges

The aim in this region is to Implement pasture systems that reduce salt loads and increase the area of perennial vegetation. Animal production will be increased by lifting the ovulation rate of ewes grazing the lucerne pastures.

Innovation being tested:

A paddock of lucerne will be established. At mating in late summer, merino ewes will graze the lucerne for 7-10 days prior to joining. All ewes will be scanned to determine the effect of the lucerne grazing on ovulation rates.
