Production and Environmental Challenges

The aim of this site is to reduce run off, improve water use, maintain ground cover and reduce erosion, while increasing the productivity of the pasture

Innovation being tested:

An established pasture of Kikuyu will be compared with a pasture of sub-clover, annual grasses and weeds. In particular, the group wishes to determine the nutritive value of the kikuyu pasture compared to the annual pasture. A new intensive grazing management system will be used with the kikuyu to maintain quality in summer.

Base pasture:

Annual sub-clover and annual grasses/weeds

Animal systems:

Beef cattle
