Production and Environmental Challenges

Increase the productivity of a pasture containing a significant native grass content while increasing the perennial grass content.

Innovation being tested:

Improve the profitability of this paddock by:

  • Addressing soil nutrient deficiencies through application of fertilizer and lime.
  • Improving productivity of perennial pasture species through implementation of a rotational grazing regime.
  • Demonstrating environmentally and financially sustainable grazing management.

Base pasture:

Native based pasture, including some introduced annual pasture species. Native perennial pasture species include wallaby grass, spear grass and microlaena. Annual species include sub-clover, soft brome, silver grass and barley grass.

Animal systems:

 Merino sheep
